You ever been to one of those quirky restaurants with restroom signs that are trying way too hard? Emoji Bathroom seeks to answer an important question almost no one was asking: how far can the quirky restaurants of tomorrow push it?
The concept relies on the stereotypes and expectations of society, and exposes the myriad of ways that even minor details can alter our perceptions. Also it relies on being a funny meme. The roles we assign to everyday objects depend on so many layers of history and sociology, and even the concept of gendering bathrooms is tied into this. Exposing this through emoji - the least serious possible medium - produces what we in the biz call 'humor.'
Emoji Bathroom uses a pool of 200 emoji (selected to include a combination of gendered, abstract, silly, connotative, and random images.) To ensure every match gets votes, the pool of available emoji refreshes once an hour, to contain a random 5 groups of 10 from the full list. If you don't like the emoji on offer right now, come back later!
The second match you'll see (if you haven't done it yet) is the Daily Matchup, which is the same matchup shown to everyone. If you've completed the Stats survey, your answers will be stored with your vote for the Daily, so we can learn ... something. Genuinely, I have no idea what we're studying here. I blacked out and when I woke up this site was live. I'm so confused. Let me go home.

Skye Lemme is a person who makes things. They enjoy theme parks, programming, and breathing. Gender is a bit of a touchy subject for them (I heard it killed their father or spit in their eye or something.) Oftentimes, you can find them making weird little things, talking about epcot, or retreating into the comforting dank depths of the internet. Please hire them to work at your software company.

Gender includes the social, psychological, cultural and behavioral aspects of being a man, woman, or other gender identity. Depending on the context, this may include sex-based social constructs (i.e. gender roles) as well as gender expression. Most cultures use a gender binary, in which gender is divided into two categories, and people are considered part of one or the other (girls/women and boys/men); those who are outside these groups may fall under the umbrella term non-binary. A number of societies have specific genders besides "man" and "woman," such as the hijras of South Asia; these are often referred to as third genders (and fourth genders, etc.). Most scholars agree that gender is a central characteristic for social organization.
